Cult of the Core Customer
This is hard for new and growing entrepreneurs to get their heads around. I was recently speaking to a group of 40 small business owners and some had a hard time understanding that they should focus their attention, time, and effort on attracting their core customer.
And only the Core Customer
Leaders, that's the trick. Gregg Crabtree talked about it. Growth is not an addition thing, it is a subtraction thing. It's not about adding more types of customers, more services, more products. It's about less distractions, and more focus. The fact is that if you want to scale your company focusing on your Core Customer is the way to do it. Develop a persona that describes the best customers you have an focus your time and energy attracting more JUST like them. Test your message, your product, your service, your EVERYTHING to ensure that it serves them ... that they are totally delighted by every move. That's they key. I'm not saying that you shouldn't take paying customers orders if they walk through the door. The key is,however, to focus on a narrower band of clients. The ones that love you, so you can have more of them. The truth is that you only need 1000 raving fans for your business to do VERY well. It's not about 100,000 prospects, suspects, or customers. It's a Cult of the Core Customer - 1000 raving fans who are all-in. Get Fired-Up about finding them and everything else will take care of itself. Make it a great day,Govindh@WiseNapkin
